Frequently Asked Questions About R3 Trade-ins:
Q. My Phone is Still Active, but I Want to Trade it in. Do I Have to Cancel Service?
A. Yes. It is your responsibility to terminate any services associated with product(s) you are trading-in. Don’t forget to bay your final bill as well!
Q. I have private information on my device, should I erase it before I send it?
A. Yes. While the recycling center will erase the data, you are ultimately responsible for the security of this information.
Q. How do I erase all of my personal data from my phone?
A. Most cell phones have an option in their settings that allows the user to reset everything to factory defaults. Refer to your owner's manual. If you don't have a copy of the manual, you can typically get one from the manufacturer's Web site.
Q. Who pays for shipping?
A. The recycling center. You will be provided with a free shipping label that you can print-out on your home printer.
Q. How do I know if my phone has water damage?
A. Inside your battery compartment is a small plastic dot that is either solid white, or white and red-checkered. If it turns solid red, then your phone has been exposed to moisture and should be reported with a condition of "ONE-Star” or “BROKEN".
Q. Do You Accept All Models From Each Category?
A. We accept thousands of different models of the most popular mobile phones and other devices from the offered categories. Unfortunately, some devices don’t have any value. If we do not support a particular model of phone it may be donated so that it can be recycled properly.
Q: What happens to the products that are traded-in?
A: All products are 100% Reused, Refurbished, or Recycled. Nothing ends up in the waste stream. Our recycling partners are part of the E-Stewards Network and are held to the highest standards for ensuring that your products are handled in ways that do not harm the environment.
Q: How do I Get Paid for My Trade-in?
A: Once you have shipped your device(s) to our evaluation center, you will receive an email confirming the product(s) value. If you agree to that value, you will receive a check within thirty days.
Q: What if I Don’t Agree With the Appraised Value of My Product?
A: You will receive an email with the recycling center’s evaluation of the product’s value. If you do not agree with the appraisal you can have the device shipped back to you at your cost.
Q. What Do You Do With My Electronic Device?
A. Most electronic devices we receive from our customers are refurbished so they can be repurposed and reused. This reduces the amount of raw materials needed to manufacture new products and helps to conserve our natural resources. For the electronics that can't be refurbished we provide them to ECS Refining. ECS is an e-Steward, one of North America's most Responsible Recyclers. As such, they must uphold the Electronics Recycler's Pledge of True Stewardship - the World's Most Rigorous Environmental and Social Justice Criteria for Recycling e-Waste. ECS adheres to all state and federal environmental regulations and complies with ISO 14001 environmental management standards ensuring that no hazardous waste will be improperly disposed.

Tackling the E-Waste Problem
Today, more and more electronics devices, from mobile phones to computers to MP3 players to are discarded in landfills, leading to dangerous health and environmental risks. Toxic materials can leak from electronic equipment into the soil and ground water, contaminating the environment and exposing residents to hazardous materials.
R3 Trade-ins and our parent company, Jasbr LLC, is committed to reducing e-waste and its hazards, by bringing the re-use of electronics products to everyone, keeping them out of landfills and putting them into the hands of new users.
Reuse is the new way:
Reducing e-waste is not just about recycling, but also about re-use. Our programs and services bring the re-use of electronics products into the mainstream, to reduce e-waste and increase the lifetime use of electronics products.
R3 Trade-ins diverts electronic products from the waste stream by giving consumers easy ways to sell and buy used electronics products. Our programs give consumers the opportunity to get value for their used equipment, while re-directing the equipment from the landfill and into the hands of new users, increasing the lifetime use of products which preserves natural resources.
Consumers can play their part and get value back:
We make it easy for consumers to get value back for their used electronics equipment, while being environmentally responsible.
Our Trade-in Programs Help Consumers By:
- Helping them play a key role in reducing e-waste and preserving the environment

The E-waste Crisis Today:
Every year consumers and businesses buy new, updated equipment to support their needs, In fact, there are upwards of 300 million computers and one new billion cell phones produced every year across the globe! All of these electronics become obsolete or unwanted - often within 2-3 years of purchase.
The rapid obsolescence of gadgets combined with the astronomically high demand for new technology has created mountains of e-waste. In fact, e-waste is the fastest growing waste stream our society produces.
What Is Dangerous About E-Waste?
Substances found in consumer electronics include such dangerous waste as arsenic, lead, cadmium, and beryllium which have a high risk of leeching into water sources, polluting the air, and contaminating the soil if disposed of improperly. It is estimated that over 100 million mobile phones are tossed into landfills each year, representing a tremendous risk to the environment and to our health. Of course, that's just mobile phones. When you add in all the other personal electronics the problem becomes much worse.
The E-Stewards Standard
As the problems associated with the relatively new electronics waste stream come to light, various programs are emerging to help customers, recyclers, governments and others navigate the complex and sometimes shady recycling industry. The challenge is to understand the differences between the various programs so you can make an informed choice. With so much at stake including the long term and devastating impacts on health, water and air – it’s critical to recognize the difference the E-Stewards makes.
The certification, which was developed by the Basel Action Network in conjunction with industry, government and nonprofit stakeholders, is based on a pledge by electronics users and recyclers to:
- Eliminate exports of hazardous e-wastes to developing countries
- Halt the dumping of such wastes in municipal landfills or incinerators
- Cease the use of captive prison populations to manage toxic e- wastes
- Certification requires recyclers to protect customer data throughout the recycling process
- Protect the health and safety of workers in electronics recycling facilities
